Do senior citizens still need car motor insurance?

A vehicle insurance is not limited to a particular age group. As long as you drive a vehicle, then you should always have car motor insurance. You will need insurance whether your 18 years old or 50 or 75. Whether you drive slow and more so if you drive fast. Being a senior citizen though has its perks. Insurance companies have what is known as mature drivers discount. You can’t get more mature if you’re fifty and above. At this age, expect that you would have lower rates compared to when you were driving a decade ago.
If you are a senior citizen and just starting to buy insurance or switching companies, the discount I mentioned should be automatic. In your application, you will be asked your age so it should be obvious. Just to be sure though, remind the company or your agent that you are qualified for such a discount.
If you already carry insurance, then your agent should be diligent in reviewing the policy and making sure that you can avail of any discount your car motor insurance has. I doubt if the company will actually announce it so be sure to review your policy from time to time. From what I know, a lot of auto insurance companies will give around 5 to 10% discount when a policyholder reaches the age of at least 50 years old.
Of course, it never hurts to be prepared also. There are driving schools that offer defensive driving courses for mature drivers. Insurance companies will offer you discounts on your car motor insurance if you finish such courses. In fact, around two-thirds of states in the US require discounts when such policyholders are able to do so. Further, there are insurance companies that will provide up to a discount of 10% upon completion of such courses.
